Those of you that follow our blog regularly may remember a similarly titled post that I wrote where I talked about Cashing in on Autism.
In that post, I discussed not wanting to put adverts into my blog as I didn't want to make money from Ryan's autism. Cancer, however, is a whole other story. Times have changed. I have had to take voluntary redundancy and stop work in order to care for Ryan as he needs 24hr a day monitoring, medication and care. Cancer is expensive, so expensive. We are now a one wage family of four, yet our heating, electricity, food bills and travelling expenses have all increased.
According to the cancer charity CLIC Sargent cancer costs on average £600 extra a month. I would agree with this figure yet my wages have disappeared. This is why I have made the decision to look at other income sources to help our family.
As was commented on my previous post on this subject. Just because something is advertised on your blog does not mean that money jumps out of MY pocket.
In May 2018 I created a small business called Adventure Accessories. Combining a passion for adventure with a love of crafts to make fun, functional, unique handcrafted gifts for outdoors which I sold online and at local craft fair events and markets in Carmarthenshire. I initially took up my crochet and crafts after Ryan's diagnosis to help with my own mental health and it quickly grew into my successful small business. Which was a positive to come out of this nightmare.
In March 2023 I rebranded my small business to Sarah Lou Crafts, creating handcrafted notebook journals, slow fashion crochet and sustainable home décor and gifts for all occasions.
I have resisted so far to put adverts on my blog as I want it to be a place people can come to learn more about Autism and Cancer without being bombarded with adverts. I hate as a user all the pop ups and alerts we constantly get now. My small business is how I have chosen to diversify to make some much needed money at such a difficult time.
The advert on my version of your blog is very relevant in that it advertises the tourist train from Adelaide to Darwin (The Ghan) which is our next 'holiday' where we will put the car on the back of the train - go up to the north of Australia, then slowly drive all the way back the long way round. Hope you get £100 from the advert!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea for holiday. Being able to take your car on the train, I suppose similar to our eurotunnel shuttle train. I would love to do the Perth to Sydney train.
